Katie

Honored Hero

Atlanta, GA

  • Print
Katie, an Atlanta native who graduated from Pope High School, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) at the age of 24. Her treatment started with 40 days of in-patient intensive therapy. The next five intensive treatments were done in and out of the hospital. After going into remission in April of 2014, she is now in the maintenance phase of her protocol and is taking oral chemotherapy to keep the disease from returning and visits the clinic on a regular basis. “I have a special place in my heart for LLS and have the utmost respect for caregivers and donors, and will continue to raise awareness and use my story to motivate people to help find a cure,” says Katie. She is thankful and glad to be mentally strong enough to be a volunteer and a “face” for LLS. Katie enjoys exercising, reading, horror movies, college football, and spending time with her family and friends. Katie and her family remain enthusiastic about the future. Katie considers her survivorship an opportunity to honor those who continue to fight, and those who have lost their life to blood cancers.
