Kylie was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is a wife and mother of 2 young children. Kylie always wanted to have a family of her own. After achieving her lifelong dream of becoming a mother, she decided to put her career on hold to focus on her children and family. Becoming a stay at home mom was an easy decision for her and her family. Having two toddlers, 14 months apart in age, keeps Kylie very busy.
In 2016, when her children were 1 and 2 years in age, she took routine blood work. Within two days of taking that blood work, her doctor diagnosed her with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML). The symptoms of CML alluded her in everyday life, so the diagnosis took her for a complete surprise. The symptoms that she was experiencing seemed to be easily explained with some other reasons. Cancer was the furthest thing from her mind. Since CML is a chronic blood cancer, she will be fighting this disease for the rest of her life.
Current treatment for CML is a daily oral chemo pill, Gleevec. The side effects of this medication can be hard. Determined not to let this hold her back, she pushes every day to maintain a normal life for her husband, children and family. She continues to be a stay at home mother, and also participates in her children’s co-op preschool. Blood cancer has changed her life in so many ways and changed her outlook on life. Blood cancer will always be a part of her children’s lives and she would like them to understand as much as they can about this as they grown and learn. Something that she strives to teach her children is to look for the bright side in things. This has taught her to love harder, and never take life and love for granted.
