Carolina

Leukemia Survivor

Wadsworth, IL

  • Print

Our sweet Carolina was diagnosed with Leukemia (ALL Pre-B) on August 19, 2011 and a Survivor as of March 28, 2014. She was only 5 years old at the time of diagnosis. For those who know her well, she is 12 years old going on 25! She is the baby of the family, her oldest sister is Isabella.

Carolina is an amazing young lady, who thrives on sports, life, music, dancing and art. Among all her favorite things, she is a water baby; loves to swim and feel the water against her skin. Carolina also has an extraordinary passion for horses, and one day want to endorse Adidas!

Her physical journey has been a blessing because she has not been the average cancer patient, but the emotional journey for her has been very difficult. She continues to question why she had cancer, and how did she get blood cancer. These are all questions that no one can answer for her.

Carolina was in a study program that allowed her to cut corners and for the treatment not to be so aggressive on her body. She at the beginning was very afraid of losing her hair and thankfully she really didn't. She has maintained a full set of hair all through her chemo treatment. Her hair thinned out but never lost it all. We refer to Carolina as our “Little Warrior”!

Carolina looks forward every year to Light The Night as her first event was only a couple months into treatment in October 2011. Since then, Light The Night is a big part of her journey, and looks forward to connecting with many other at the walk and feeling a sense of huge support and community! Carolina has been so courageous, hopeful and was brave throughout the 2.5 years of treatment. She always keeps positive, happy and always with a big smile!

This year is Carolina’s 7th year from diagnoses and 4th year of remission. Attending Light The Night has truly allowed both of my girls to enjoy and look at life with many blessings. Making negatives into positives. The experience and excitement that my daughters and family feel is priceless and indispensable. An overwhelming feeling of love, support and normalcy.
