Special Events Intern, Light The Night Walks, Texas Gulf Coast Chapter
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is recruiting intern candidates for the Light the Night Walks held in Houston and Montgomery County. Selected interns will gain valuable experience in the areas of: event planning, non-profit management and operations; development and fundraising, marketing, public relations and community relations.The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the third largest voluntary healthcare organization in the country. Its mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.Locally, the Light the Night Walks raise over $2 million through fundraising teams, participants, retail partners andcorporate sponsors.
Basic Function: Performs diverse projects and activities for the Light the Night campaign to support and enhancerevenue generation.
Work Direction: Works under the direction, supervision and training of the Light the Night staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with planning and execution of special events for the Light the Night Walks Ex: Kickoff Luncheon, VIP reception, Remembrance Ceremony, Walk Activities/Ceremonies, etc.
- Provide a high level of customer service and serve as an extension of the staff
- Assist with management of registrations
- Retain, Recruit and Manage assigned walk teams
- Assist in management of Retail Partner Program and related promotions
- Assist with communications efforts, including LTN social media, press releases and newsletters
- Recruit volunteers
- Maintain a working knowledge of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society mission and its programs
- Various projects as assigned by staff
Position Requirements:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of MS Office
- Working knowledge of social media streams i.e., Facebook, Twitter, etc.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Professional demeanor
Students currently enrolled towards a degree in or having prior experience in the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply: hospitality, communication, non-profit leadership, marketing and/or business.Internship positions are available year-round working approximately 10-20 hours per week between the hours of 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. at the Texas Gulf Coast Office - 5433 Westheimer, Houston, TX 77056.
