Katie is 23 years old and a Central Ohio Light The Night Honored Hero!
Katie's diagnosis came after returning home from a family vacation to Disney World. While she was sitting on the couch and watching TV, Katie realized her neck was swollen. Not being able to get an appointment with her family doctor, she went to her local urgent care where they believed Katie had cancer and sent her immediately to The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. It was then when Katie was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Chemo started immediately after her diagnosis. Katie bonded with her nurses and was excited to see them every time she went in for treatment. In 2015, Katie walked in her first Light The Night as a survivor, with all of her favorite nurses by her side.
She continues to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and wants to help in any way she can for anyone with cancer, those who have had cancer, or families with loved ones that have passed from cancer. Katie loves Light The Night because she is able to raise money to help others that are in need. She wants other families to know that through the battle with cancer, it is important to stay positive and know you can do anything you put your mind to!
