Dr. Flora Wilhite Tydings- Athens' 2008 Walk Chairwoman
Mr. Flora Tydings, President of Athens Technical College, serves as Walk Chairwoman for this year's Light The Night Walk. Dr. Tydings was named President of Athens Technical College in July, 2003. Prior to being named President of Athens Technical College, Dr. Tydings was Vice President of Academic Affairs at Central Georgia Technical College. Her career background ranges from teaching high school history classes, to working as a pyschometrist in private practice, as well as, owning and operating a gift shop specializing in fine china, crystal and flatware. Dr. Tydings is Chair of the Athens/Clarke County Economic Development Foundation, a member of Athens Rotary Club, Partners for a Prosperous Athens Steering Committee member, American Technical Educators Association, a member of the DTAE Performance Funding Work Group and the Georgia Technical Educators Association. Dr. Tydings received her doctorate from the University of Georgia, a master’s degree from Mercer University, and a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University.

Hilary
Hilary was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in February 2007. She received chemotherapy for her main protocol. Hilary enjoys taking walks, shopping with friendsand participating and fundraising for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Colleges Against Cancer, and the Loran Smith Cancer Center. She also loves good food and cooking, exercising, and puppies (especially golden retrievers!).

Bess
Bess was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in November 2007. She received chemotherapy and Rytuxin for her main protocol. Bess enjoys art in any form, gardening, painting, sewing, remodeling projects, building bird houses and volunteer work at the hospital and cancer center. She also loves spending time with her friends and family. Bess has three daughters, six grandchildren, and one great-grandson!
Betty
Betty was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) in 2000. Betty enjoys cooking, talking and working at her church. She has two daughters and a son. In 1995, Betty retired from the Clarke County School District where all of the children called her “Ma”.
