San Antonio Walk Details
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society invites you to participate in our 10th annual Light The Night ® Walk! Join our unique evening Walk that celebrates and commemorates lives touched by cancer. Participants carry illuminated red balloons through the streets of San Antonio. Survivors and patients carry white balloons, signifying their courage in battling these dreaded diseases. Your involvement helps brings us one step closer to a cure!
WHEN: Saturday, October 25, 2008. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m. The Walk starts at 7:00 p.m.
WHERE: HemisFair Park, 200 S. Alamo Street, San Antonio, TX 78205
WHY: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS is supported entirely by public contributions.
HOW: To walk with us, register online. If you'd like to be a team captain, please choose that option when registering and staff will contact you to complete your team registration. To register by phone, or for more information, call (210) 377-1775 or (800) 683-2458 and ask to speak with Clarissa Cadena Flores, ext.125 or Chelsea Holcomb, ext. 130.
ROUTE: The walk route is approximately 2 miles long. Please check back for updates.
PARKING: A few downtown parking lots have been reserved for walkers at a reduced rate. Please check back for updates.
CHECK-IN: Check-in begins at 5:30, and will be located at the Check-in Tent. Each walker can turn in their walker collection envelope with donations at the tent. Please be sure to have your name, address, phone number and team name written on your collection envelope. There will be extra envelopes at the Check-in Tent.
WHAT TO BRING: Bring your walker collection envelope, camera, and umbrella, because we will walk rain or shine!
FOOD: Snacks and light refreshments will be available at the Food Tent before the Walk begins.
SAFETY: In case of emergency, there will be a paramedic and first aid kits on site. Security will be provided both inside the park and throughout the walk route.
ENTERTAINMENT: Come enjoy the band, as they will be playing before and after the walk. There will also be special appearances by many characters. There will be a Kids Korner where kids will be able to enjoy face painting, clowns, and two bounce houses.
T-SHIRT CONTEST: To enter the t-shirt contest, please bring your team t-shirt to the Information Tent as soon as you arrive at the Walk, so that it can be displayed. Judging will take place that evening and the winner will be announced after the Walk begins. Winners will be recognized and receive trophies. T-shirts entered in the contest will not be returned.
T-SHIRTS: Each walker who raises $100 or more will receive a 2008 Light The Night t-shirt. If you have earned a t-shirt, you will receive a ticket at the Check-in Tent, and will be directed to the t-shirt pickup station. All other incentive prizes will be mailed to you 6-8 weeks after the Walk.
TEAM TENTS: Have your own tent at the Walk! All teams who raise $10,000 or more will receive their own team tent at the Walk. Team tents are a great place for your team to gather before and after the walk. If you believe your team will raise $10,000, please contact Chelsea Holcomb at (210) 377-1775 ext. 130 before October 20.
DOGS: Dogs are permitted as long as they are leashed at all times.
INCLEMENT WEATHER: We will walk rain or shine, but in case of lightning the Walk will be cancelled. Staff will be at our office (431 Isom Road, Suite 125) for walkers to turn in their donations.
