Doug Cavanaugh, Chairman, CEO & Founder, Ruby's Diner
2008 Orange County Corporate Walk Chair
During a foggy morning jog on the beach in 1981, Doug passed an old dilapidated bait shack on the Balboa Pier and was struck with the idea of turning it into a classic American diner. It was this vision that created the Ruby’s concept. Twenty-five years later, as Chairman and CEO of The Ruby’s Restaurant Group, he continues to drive the vision, mission and values of the company.
Cavanaugh has been involved in a variety of food service industry and community efforts, including service as Director Emeritus with the California Restaurant Association, Trustee of Concordia University and past Chairman of the Southern California Chapter of the Young Presidents’ Organization. Doug spends his spare time with his family at his vacation home in Hana, Maui.

Each Ruby’s Diner offers a glimpse back to the 1940s. Bright red vinyl booths, white Formica tables, soda fountains, colorful Coca-Cola posters and commercial art echo the swing era. Ruby’s has more than 40 family-friendly locations in California, Colorado, Nevada, Hawaii, Texas, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Washington. Ruby’s Diner is a privately held company, headquartered in Newport Beach, Calif. Visit Ruby’s online at www.rubys.com
