Honor a Loved One
Red and White Balloons
For all of us, the red and white balloons that illuminate the night sky every September mark the relationship we have to the mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Red balloons are carried by supporters, and white balloons are carried by patients and survivors.
Gold Balloons
This year, we are introducing a gold balloon to commemorate lives lost to cancer. Every 10 minutes, another life is lost to blood cancer. While we strive to improve the quality of life of today's patients and families, the Society also remembers those who have lost their heroic battle against these diseases. Each team that is walking in memory of someone can receive one gold balloon for their team. Individual walkers, who are not part of a team, who are walking in memory of someone may also request a gold balloon. Team Captains or individuals who would like to request a FREE gold balloon are asked to contact the Society by October 1st. Your gold balloon will be held for you the night of the event at the Mission Tent.
Gold & Silver Stars
This year, you can also remember someone who lost his or her battle to cancer by purchasing a Gold Star. Or you can honor someone who is winning the fight by purchasing a Silver Star. Gold and Silver Stars, each bearing the name of a loved one, will decorate the start and finish area. As we start and finish our walk, we will reflect on the courage and strength of all who are affected by cancer. Team Captains or individuals who would like to purchase a Gold or Silver Star in memory or in honor of a loved one are asked to complete a Star Form and return it to the Society. If you would like to personalize your star, please make note of it on the Star Form and a Society Staff Person will contact you.
