NYC Light The Night - Frequently Asked Questions

Q How much money should I raise?

A The fundraising minimum to walk is $25, but raise as much

as you can!

 

Q How many walkers make up a Team?

A A Team is two or more walkers.

 

Q Is it difficult to organize a Team?
A It's not hard at all! Once you appoint a team captain to act as a liaison between The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society office and your team or organization, we will provide all the materials and guidelines to ensure success in forming a successful Light The Night Team.

Q Is team membership limited to employees of the company?
A Not at all. Team participation is open to everyone. Employees are encouraged to invite their family, friends and neighbors to be involved. The magical and uplifting setting of the Light The Night® Walk creates a fun, wholesome event that brings coworkers and their families together outside the office for the purpose of helping others

Q Are donations tax-deductible and how do I get a receipt?

A All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the

law. Your canceled check or credit card transaction serves

as a receipt. Those giving $250 or more will receive an

acknowledgement in the mail after the walk.

 

Q If I walked last year must I register again?

A Yes, you must register each year to participate in the Walk.

 

Q I have money to send in that I collected for my team (or friend)

and myself…what do I do?

A All dollars raised are recorded by individual participants.

When sending in money please be sure to indicate how much each

individual has raised so we know how to credit each fundraiser.

 

Q What do I get on the day of the walk?

A Turn in $100 or more by the day of the walk and receive an official

Light The Night T-shirt. All regsitered walkers will receive a Light The

Night balloon.

 

Q What do I need to bring with me on the day of the walk?

A Besides comfortable shoes and good spirit, all walkers must turn in

their collection envelope on the day of the walk whether or not it

contains money.

 

Q What if it rains?

A Light The Night will take place rain or shine. Let’s hope for shine!

 

Q How can my company find out more about becoming a corporate

sponsor?

A Corporate sponsorship is a great way for your company to

support a meaningful community event. For information

on becoming a sponsor please call (212) 448-9206, ext. 223.

 

Q What can senior management do to facilitate building a Light The Night Team?
A Management can encourage team participation in a number of ways: Sign-up for the team, draft and distribute a company-wide memo or email endorsing Light The Night® Walk, authorize the purchase of T-shirts for team members to wear to promote their company's commitment to Light The Night. The possibilities are endless and the  Light The Night staff are more than willing to help get your team started.

Q How is the money collected?
A Each team member is responsible for collecting funds from supporters and either turning funds raised into the Team Captain or sending it to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. If you are an individual walker, bring your full collection envelope to Early Check-in, the day of the Walk, or mail your funds raised to the address below.  Please be sure to indicate your name, walksite and team name so you can get the appropriate credit for raising funds.

 Q Are strollers, bicycles or skates allowed at the walk?

A Strollers are welcome. For safety precautions bicycles and

skates are not permitted.

 

Q How long is the walk route?

A Mileage for each route varies from site to site.

The average length is between two and three miles.

 

Q Can my child participate?

A Light The Night is a family event for all ages! Though young

children may not have the ability to raise funds like adults

do, some, with a little help from an adult, have the potential

to become big fundraisers!
