Matthew Faulkner
Acute Leukemia
Down State Hero

Matthew was born on April 3, 2006 and is the youngest of five. On October 28, 2006 he was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia. After cold or allergy symptoms didn't go away, the pediatrician suggested Matthew be taken to the ER when he woke up not breathing too well.  The doctors ran some tests and said he had all of the warning signs of leukemia.  Matthew was sent to A.I. duPont Hospital for Children where they confirmed he had leukemia.  Once out of the pediatric intensive care unit Matthew has been in the hospital for most of the last 7 months.  The doctors are now letting him go home more often, which is really great.  His treatment will continue for about another 2 ½ years.  He likes watching cartoons, dancing and playing and cuddling with his family, which includes his mommy, daddy, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.  When he is at the hospital he likes to play with the hospital staff.
