Team Captain Responsibilities

AS A TEAM CAPTAIN, WHAT ARE MY RESPONSIBILITIES?

  • Recruit team members. The average team includes about 7 or more members, but there is no minimum number needed to form a team.
  • Spread the word by asking members of your company, organization, family and within your network of friends.
  • Set team goals and inspire walkers to raise a minimum of $250 per person.
  • Report your team's progress to the Light The Night Staff.
  • Collect all team members' walker envelopes and submit the donations to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on Bank Day.
  • Keep team members engaged and motivated with weekly updates, memos or emails.

HOW DO I RECRUIT TEAM MEMBERS?

  • An informal Light The Night® Walk awareness meeting can be held by a Light The Night staff member with the members of your company, organization or group
  • Spread the word about the event and periodically announce team progress
  • Hang up signs and posters in your company work room
  • Encourage co-workers and other group members to register their family and friends

WHAT ARE SOME WAYS FOR OUR TEAM TO FUNDRAISE?

  • Ask your company to match what your team raises. If your company provides corporate matching funds, include this information in all of your materials or presentations.
  • Encourage team participation by creating your own Light The Night T-shirts featuring your company or group logo.
  • Recognize top performers with an incentives lunch at a local hot spot with teammates.
  • Place a collection jar in a common area for spare change contributions in support of your Light The Night Team.
  • Encourage friendly competition. Have the different departments within your company, or streets in your neighborhood compete in raising funds. Or challenge another company, organization or neighborhood to be the top fundraising team.
