How do I register for the 2007 Light The Night?
You can register over the phone by calling 203.427.2062, fill out a Light The Night brochure or register online.
If I walked last year must I register again?
Yes, you must register each year to participate in the Walk.
Is it difficult to organize a Team?
It's not hard at all! Once you appoint a team captain to act as a liaison between The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society office and your team or organization, we will provide all the materials and guidelines to ensure success in forming a successful Light The Night Team.
Is team membership limited to employees of the company?
Not at all. Team participation is open to everyone. Employees are encouraged to invite their family, friends and neighbors to be involved. The magical and uplifting setting of the Light The Night® Walk creates a fun, wholesome event that brings coworkers and their families together outside the office for the purpose of helping others.
Does having a Team require some kind of corporate donation?
Corporate donations are encouraged, but not required. Your individual team members will generate the majority of team contributions. Corporate Matching Gifts can enhance your team members' fundraising efforts.
What can senior management do to facilitate building a Light The Night Team?
Management can encourage team participation in a number of ways: Sign-up for the team, draft and distribute a company-wide memo or email endorsing Light The Night® Walk, authorize the purchase of T-shirts for team members to wear to promote their company's commitment to Light The Night. The possibilities are endless and the Light The Night staff are more than willing to help get your team started.
How is the money collected?
Each team member is responsible for collecting funds from supporters and either turning funds raised into the Team Captain or sending it to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. If you are an individual walker, bring your full collection envelope to Bank Day, the day of the Walk, or mail your funds raised to the address below. Please be sure to indicate your name, walksite and team name so you can get the appropriate credit for raising funds.
Checks can be mailed to:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Attn: Light The Night: "Your Team's Name'
300 Research Parkway, Suite 310
Meriden, CT 06450
How is the money used?
All proceeds from this year's Light The Night® Walk go to further our mission of curing leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma and improving the quality of life for patients and their families. This mission is carried out through extensive research for treatments, cures, government advocacy, patient assistance programs, community outreach, and education programs.
How should I handle a matching gift?
Check with your company if they have a matching gifts program and how to apply. Make sure to inform the Light The Night Staff that you will be receiving a matching gift. Matching gifts are a great way to double (or even triple) your funds raised!
Are there prizes for raising certain amounts of donations?
Prizes are available to those who have reached a certain level and can be viewed at our prize incentives page.
Are donations tax deductible and how do I obtain a copy of the receipt?
Yes. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent permitted by law. Your canceled check or credit card transaction serves as a receipt for donations under $100. A receipt will sent automatically to donors contributing over $100 after the Walk.
