NORTHWEST INDIANA 2008 HONORED HERO: Alex Rodriguez

Joseph Alexander Rodriguez, “Alex”, is this year’s Northwest Indiana Honored Hero. Honored Heroes are individuals that have battled or are currently battling a blood cancer. They offer us inspiration and a personal connection to our cause. We hope that their stories will provide encouragement as you work toward your donation goal.
Alex is 10 years old and lives in Lake Station, IN with his mom Alta. Alex was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia in March of 2003. He is now in remission and is excited to be joining the Survivor Program at the University of Chicago Hospital.
Alex enjoys reading and his favorite books are from the Harry Potter series. He also enjoys the Harry Potter movies. Some activities Alex enjoys are playing Playstation, reading at the library, riding his scooter and going to the movies. He enjoys eating kiwi, pizza and milk. Alex says his role models are his grandpa and his uncle.
Words Alex lives by are ‘Never Give Up’. Anyone who meets Alex can see he does indeed live by them. He is dedicated to helping others who have cancer and has done so by participating in the Light The Night Walk since 2003 with his family.
We are very excited to have Alex and his family participating in the Light The Night Walk again this year. Let his inspirational story of cancer survival remind us all of the significant strides that have been made in the fight against cancer, and let his determination to help find a cure for blood cancers remind us we still have work to do.
