The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Announces 2008 Light The Night Walk Honorary Chairs & Corporate Walk Chairs

Each year our Honorary Walk Chairs donate their time at our festival in the park and emcee the activites for the evening.  The 2008 Corporate Walk Chairs are those individuals in the community who are dedicated to finding a cure for blood cancers.  The Corporate Walk Chair will help several months leading up until the walk with recruitment and spreading the word about Light The Night through his or her contacts in the community!

Channa Petrocelli, M.E. Wilson Co., Inc.

“The year 2004 has been one of the hardest years of my life. In February I found out that I had leukemia and have been going through treatment ever since. I have been fighting the hardest that I’ve ever had to in my life. I am currently waiting to have a bone marrow transplant. I hope to have that completed in the next two months. I now realize how important it is for people to donate blood, so many people are in need. It has been a life changing experience to say the least. It makes you focus on the things that are important in life. God, family and happiness.”

Heather passed away in February 2005 at the age of 33. 11 months after her diagnosis of AML. She was my sister, a mother, daughter and wife. She left behind a husband and three small children under the age of 5. Heather Darnell.

I have been a volunteer with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society since 2005 along with Heather’s children. It is my mission to help educate and raise awareness about this disease and the need for people to donate blood and join the National Donor Registry. The simple gift of blood donation was the only reason Heather survived those 11 months. She received transfusions daily. Thank you. She will always be remembered for her loving spirit, energy and unshakeable faith.

Our family is native to Polk County and we believe in giving back.  My profession is insurance and I am fortunate enough to work for a firm that believes in strong family values and giving back to the community.

Many thanks to all our Honorary Walk Chairs & Corporate Walk Chairs for giving of their time and supporting Light The Night across Central Florida!
