The opening ceremony highlighted stories of courage, struggle, victory and loss. Survivors were invited to gather around the white beam as together the community surrounded them, everyone unified in Bringing Light to the Darkness of Cancer.

Led by the Casino M8trix mascot crew, the walk kicked off through a new celebration start line arch. The route ended back at the main stadium gates where participants were celebrated by the SJ Taiko troop drummers.
