2010 Light The Night Walk Volunteer Opportunities

Executive Committee
This committee plays a vital role in increasing revenue for the Light The Night Walk by securing corporate sponsors and/or teams. The committee primarily communicates through email, one-on-one meetings with Light The Night staff and individual phone or conference calls. If you have five or more corporate contacts that you wish to invite to participate in the 2010 Light The Night Walk, this committee is for you! Contact us today for a detailed informational packet.

Planning Committee
This committee plays a vital role in the planning and implementation of the Light The Night Walk. The planning committee provides ideas to enhance the Walks, solicits companies for in-kind donations (food, kids activities, etc.) and serve as volunteer leaders the day of the Walk. If you have ideas to improve the Walk or are willing to solicit companies for in-kind donations, we have an open spot for you on our committee! Most communications are through email, phone and one-on-one meetings with Light The Night staff. Contact us today for a detailed information packet.

Friends & Family Committee/Mentor Program
This committee plays an integral role in raising awareness and increasing revenue for the Light The Night Walk by recruiting new friends and family teams and by mentoring current team captains throughout the campaign. Committee members will recruit friends, family and, if applicable, other patient families and survivors to form teams. Any experienced, successful team captain willing to support and encourage new team captains would make a great mentor! Please contact us today for more information and details about this excellent committee and mentor program!

Pre-event In-house Volunteers
In-house support is occasionally needed throughout the year. Opportunities include mailings, stuffing packets, filing, collating and other general office support. Also, volunteers are needed to make phone calls in evenings and weekends to past and current participants for recruitment and fundraising support efforts.

Pre-event Community Volunteers/Ambassadors
Spreading the word about The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Light The Night Walk in the community is an essential component of inviting new participants to the Walk. Each year volunteers are needed to host tables with Walk information at expos, distribute flyers and brochures to local businesses, attend chamber networking events and give presentations to local organizations (Rotary clubs, etc.). If you enjoy meeting new people, visiting community businesses and/or giving presentations, please contact us today for more information!

Honored Heroes - Opportunities are also available for blood cancer survivors to share their journey with others. Volunteers are always needed to attend events, write letters, speak at events and share their story in print. If you or someone you know is a blood cancer survivor and would like to get involved with the Walk as an honored hero, please contact us.

Detroit Tigers 50/50 Raffle -
The Detroit Tigers Foundation hosts a 50/50 raffle at several games throughout the season allowing local charities to raise donations. Volunteers are needed to sell raffle tickets at two Tigers games on July 9 & 10. Volunteers get fundraising credit, a free game ticket after raffle sales conclude, parking pass and fun incentives. Volunteers will be standing the entire time while selling tickets, must volunteer for both games and must be 18 years or older. In 2009, LLS earned over $9,000 from the 50/50 raffle!

Night of Volunteers
As you can imagine, it takes a tremendous number of volunteers to make the Light The Night Walk run smoothly. Volunteers are needed to assist in areas such as: set-up and break-down, check-in, cheer stations, route guides, kids activities, mission tent and other areas. If you would like to volunteer the night of the event, please contact us anytime!

Social Media Marketers

Social media marketers are needed to advertise our Light The Night Walk profiles/pages, recruit new friends/connections/followers, and research other businesses and non-profits for ideas to improve our interaction with fans. If you?re a social media guru, we need you! Contact us today for more details.
