Welcome

Welcome to the Massachusetts Chapter

serving Maine, Massachusetts And New Hampshire

Light The Night is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) nationwide evening walk to commemorate lives touched by cancer and to raise awareness of blood cancers. Anyone can participate. Children, adults and seniors are all welcome. This is a casual walk with no fitness requirements.
Participants walk in twilight, holding illuminated balloons-white for survivors, red for supporters and gold for "in memory".   More than a walk, the evening includes music, food and family festivities.

Funds raised support our mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

The Massachusetts Chapter's Light The Night Walk events will be held in six communities in Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire in September and October 2008. Your participation will help save lives. Please join us in our fight against blood cancers as we light the night with hope and raise funds to find a cure.

We hope you will join us for a 2008 Walk in your area:

Did you know?

In the past year, as a result of Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) fundraising campaigns like Light The Night:

  • 80,000 people contacted our Information Resource Center (IRC) and received critical information about blood cancers, therapy options and issues surrounding treatment and survival.
  • 8,500 patients were able to afford drug co-pays and health insurance premiums essential to their healthcare.
  • 540,000 patients, family members and healthcare providers heard from leading experts about new therapies, treatments and issues critical to cancer survivorship, through LLS teleconferences and Webcasts.
  • 19,000 people battling their cancers were able to receive treatments because LLS helped pay for their transporation, lodging and other expenses.
  • 20,000 patients and family members found comfort and hope through LLS's First Connection and Family Support Group programs.
  • New therapies and treatments are being developed by LLS funded researchers--more than 400 around the world.  Exciting and potentially ground-breaking research areas include: Immunotherapies such as cancer vaccines and immune cell-based procedures; radio-immunotherapies that bind specifically to cancer cells, sparing normal tissue; and novel Stem Cell Transplantation Procedures such as mini-transplants that use less toxic pre-transplant treatments.
