CELEBRATING A DECADE OF DIFFERENCE
This year marks the 10th birthday of Light The Night, and the progress that has been made over the last decade is incredible. Survival rates have improved, and new treatments are being developed to target cancerous cells without completely wiping out a patient's immune system.  The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society now funds researchers across the country at the level of $62 million per year, which brings the total amount we have invested in a cure to $600 million since 1949.

We're coming closer and closer to improved therapies and ultimately a cure for blood cancers, and all of our efforts are made possible by people like you who raise money through Light The Night and other LLS campaigns.

TURNING IN DONATIONS POST-EVENT
Even though the walks have taken place, we're still accepting donations in hopes of reaching our fundraising goals. All participant websites will remain open until January so that credit card donations can still be made. If you have additional funds to turn in that were contributed or collected after the event, please mail them to our chapter office with a note stating that they are for Light The Night. Make sure you include your name or the name of the participant you're supporting so we can ensure proper credit is given.

ABOUT LIGHT THE NIGHT
Light The Night is a nationwide evening Walk to raise funds in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Once registered for the Walk, participants begin fundraising individually through family members, friends, co-workers, and other contacts. Most walkers also form teams, which consist of a team captain and five or more people fundraising individually and as a group.  Light The Night is the culmination of each walker's fundraising campaign and is designed to be an evening of fun and blood cancer awareness for everyone involved.

At the Light The Night Walk, participants walk along a one mile route carrying illuminated balloons--white for survivors and red for supporters. Families and groups of co-workers gather to enjoy food, beverages, children's activities, and entertainment.  Most importantly, people come together to celebrate and commemorate those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

For additional information about Light The Night and how you can get involved, please contact  Jen Pitts in Louisville at 502.719.0550 or  Megan Reilly in Lexington at 859.226.0764.
