Athens
Jackson
Jackson was diagnosed with leukemia in December of 2006 and will continue to have chemotherapy until spring of next year. Jackson is an adorable six year old who enjoys riding his four-wheeler, swimming and being outside. He has three dogs-- Snickers, Sophie and Charlie. He has a wonderful spirit and loves anything to do with Ironman. According to his parents, he wants to change his name to "Ironman"!
Kristen
In July of 2006, Kristen was diagnosed with lymphoma and has undergone chemotherapy to treat her disease. A vibrant 20 year old, Kristen is now a student at Gainesville State College. In her spare time she enjoys making jewelry, hanging out with her friends, cooking, kayaking and hiking.
Richard
Richard is the remembered hero for Athens. Diagnosed with leukemia in June of 2004, Richard went through chemotherapy, as well as experiemental chemo trials at John Hopkins. Richard lost his battle in March of 2005 at the age of 38. A fan of UVA football, Richard enjoyed traveling, cooking, hiking, camping, teaching and swimming. Hailary
Hailary was diagnosed at age three with lymphoma. Hailary?s treatment consisted of chemotherapy. Her mother says that she is very helpful and is always helping out. Hailary also enjoys drawing, coloring and princess stories.
McKinley
McKinley was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), the most common form of childhood cancer, in June of 2004 at the age of 18 months. McKinley went through two and half years of chemotherapy and her fighting spirit kept her going. McKinley is now 6 years old and in full remission and doing well. McKinley loves kindergarten, her friends, art and ballet. She especially loves her brother and sister. Family, friends, faith and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) are what help children like McKinley fight the fight of their life.
Keith
Keith is the Remembered Hero for Atlanta. Keith was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in October of 2004 at the age of 2. His battle was brief, and he peacefully passed away 8 months later, June 6, 2005. Keith's treatment included 3 rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Morgan, Keith's older sister (who was 6 years old at the time), bravely donated her bone marrow for Keith's transplant. Keith's favorite characters were Sponge Bob Square Pants and Spiderman.
Steve
Steve was diagnosed in March of 1986 with Hodgkin's Lymphoma at the age of 22. After chemotherapy Steve came out of remission in 1986 and endured more radiation and another year of chemo. Today Steve is a survivor and a proud father and husband.
Savannah
Kenny
Kenny is the Remembered Hero for Savannah. Kenny was diagnosed with leukemia on June 30, 2007 and died just three weeks later. He was loved by many people. According to his family, " When Kenny was born it was the happiest day of our life. Kenny's life was unexpectedly very short, but he enjoyed every day of his life, he traveled, he was involved in church from very early on in his life, he enjoyed reading the bible and was very respectful towards people. In our eyes, he was the perfect son, grandson, brother, nephew and is truly missed by everyone. Kenny loved his school, Armstrong Atlantic State University and Savannah, GA. In his eyes, everybody was created equal; he always had a smile on his face, and loved his friends and family. He was a quiet person but had a special gift in bringing people together. Knowing that other people loved our son is a blessing."
Dae'Kyra
Dae'Kyra is the youngest of five children and is six years old. She was diagnosed with ALL in January of 2008 and has gone through her first year of chemo treatments. Dae'Kyra is doing well but has another two years of treatments to go. She enjoys reading, riding her bike, shopping and playing pretend.
Augusta
Roslyn
Rosalyn is Augusta's 2009 Honored Hero! She enjoys music, reading and blogging and has a 16 year old daughter named Raven. Rosalyn was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma in February of 2004. Her treatment included Chemo and radiation for 6 months and she continued to work during treatments. While fighting her cancer, she attended a LLS sponsored support group and also received financial assistance to help cover the cost of medical bills and numerous doctor visits. Rosalyn is now cancer free! Her sister, Delmonica has had a Light The Night Team in honor of Rosalyn since 2004. Delmonica says, "We are so blessed that Rosalyn is still cancer free. She is a great mom, daughter, sister and aunt. We love her dearly!"
Albany
Jennifer
Jennifer was diagnosed with lymphoma in February of 2008 while serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Africa, where she had been for more than a year. The 29 year old enjoys writing, poetry and t-shirt design for her company, Consciously A-Wear, LLC.
