Rebekah Adamski
Avid high school cheerleader, Rebekah Adamski, was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome on August 4, 2010. This was the same summer Adamski had been going to the local cheerleading gym regularly to tumble; however, one day she took a nasty fall and broke her arm. While trying to recover, Adamski's arm became swollen, red, and infected and her fever reached a shocking 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Something was wrong. Ten days after her broken arm, a blood test confirmed Adamski had MDS and she would need a bone marrow transplant. Thankfully Adamski's brother, Anthony, was a perfect match and the transplant went smoothly.

"Going through cancer has made me appreciate all the things in life that we all take for granted," said Adamski.

She is now in remission and is gearing up for her senior year! Adamski serves as an inspiration as she takes the role of the 2012 Harrisburg Light The Night Honored Hero and walks with the Foxy Ladies! It's safe to say Adamski's favorite cheer is 'Beat Cancer.'

Josie Dively
In 2007, newly married Josie Dively was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

"2007 was the same year Britney Spear's shaved her head. It was a bad year to get cancer," Dively reminisced with a sprinkle of humor.

After eight months of chemotherapy and a total of twenty two days spent at what Dively affectionately refers to as the Lancaster General Day Spa, she entered remission. Thankfully, Dively has been in remission for the past five years.Upon remission, Dively was warned of the possibility of infertility; however, six months post-treatment Josie and her husband received the best surprise they could ask for. In June 2009, Dively's first son, Aiden, was born. Twenty months after Aiden's birth, his brother Logan was born.

Dively credits her humorous outlook and positive attitude to her family and friends support throughout her journey.

"Cancer has brought me closer to people, helped me form new relationships, and taught me to appreciate the little things in life," Dively reflects. Dively walks and captains Team M-T-D and encourages walkers as the Lancaster Light The Night 2012 Honored Hero.

Nathan Hiscox
Competitive six-year-old Nathan Hiscox woke up on February, 2011 ready to play a game of dodgeball, one of his favorite games. While playing, Hiscox was hit in his head and he began to cry. The throw was not hard and his mother, Michelle, debated whether he was crying because the hit hurt or because he was upset he lost. After examining Hiscox, Michelle discovered "the bump" on his neck, which had been diagnosed month's earlier as a reactive lymph node (a common childhood condition) was still present. After a trip to the doctor's office, a biopsy determined Hiscox had Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

The month's following the diagnosis were filled with doctor visits and chemotherapy, but Hiscox's competitive spirit never left him as he constantly told his parents, Michelle and Paul, "I am going to beat cancer." He proved he meant business as Team Nathan, Hiscox's Light The Night team, raised an incredible $11,905.25 in 2011. Hiscox, 2012 York Light The Night Honored Hero, is doing well and will always be referred to as a boy filled with courage and positivity.
